Pacifiers are very useful to calm or soothe the child. However, it is recommended that pacifiers are not removed too late. In the short term, they do not pose any problems in their development, but their continued use creates a habit and the more they use them, the more they need them.

Generally, pediatricians recommend pacifier removal before 3 years of age. Removing the pacifier from the child requires time and patience, therefore, this week we give you some tips on how to remove the pacifier from our children:

– We can talk to the little one, reminding him/her that he/she is older and does not need a pacifier.

– Praise works well with children older than one year. So praise him when he behaves like an older child.

– We can moisten the pacifier’s teat with strong flavored substances such as lemon or vinegar, so that the child will surely get rid of it.

– Telling stories or stories in which your hero takes the child’s pacifier may work.
– We can pinch the nipple so that the sucking sensation is not satisfactory.

– Set goals for the child, for example, that if he uses the pacifier only for sleeping, you will give him a prize.

In conclusion, the interruption of its use has to be gradual or sudden, but it should not be punished or make the process traumatic. Choose the best moment for him, always in a calm and relaxed situation, which does not coincide with important changes in his life or family life that may affect him.
