The most common mistakes in infant feeding

Feeding our children is a fundamental aspect for their development and education.

This week in Centro de Educación Infantil Hormiguitas we bring you some of the mistakes or beliefs that we usually make when it comes to feeding children. Take note!

To begin with, did you know, for example, that cow’s milk is not recommended for children under 12 months of age?

There are misconceptions and false beliefs to avoid about healthy eating.

Most mistakes are easy to avoid when you are aware of them. If, for example, we are aware that natural fruit juice is healthier than packaged fruit juice, you can avoid buying it at the supermarket. It is preferable that fruit, especially oranges, be offered to the baby in pieces rather than in juice. In this way, it preserves all the vitamins and nutrients of each piece.

When choosing your child’s menu, you should choose a balanced diet. If you have any doubts, you can always consult your pediatrician, who will explain to you what and how to feed your child. Keep in mind that there are foods that can be eaten, but in moderation.

Here are some of the most common feeding mistakes.

  • There are no prohibited foods.
  • Children should not be forced to eat.
  • Children can get into the kitchen. It has been proven that if children are involved in the preparation of food, they are more willing to try it.
  • Avoid serving boring vegetables, that is, complement them with cheese or any other sauce that makes it a more attractive and fun dish.
  • Remember that pastries and confectionery products should be consumed in moderation as they provide added fats that are not at all beneficial for children’s diets.
  • And finally, the same goes for flakes and sugary cereals. They should be eaten in moderation despite how appetizing they are for them.
