When night falls after dinner, many parents do not know what to do to get their children to sleep. Reading a story not only fulfills this function, but also brings many more benefits to the little ones. This week, taking advantage of the fact that Saturday was World Children’s Storytelling Day, we want to tell you about all the advantages of reading stories from an early age:

Reading and love for books is encouraged. The sooner stories become part of the child’s life, the better. The reading habit is essential for social and personal fulfillment.

– Their comprehension and perception skills are developed and improved.

– It favors the development of language and vocabulary. They learn new ways of expression and dispel doubts about grammatical construction.

– The child learnsto listen carefully and to be patient. This is essential for the development of learning.

– It favors empathy, that is, the ability to put oneself in the other’s place. They also transmitvalues such as: friendship, constancy, modesty, honesty… The child identifies with the characters and situations experienced in the story, which makes it easier for him/her to solve problems.

– They teach the child to identify and know emotions and to fight his own fears.

– It improves the relationship with their parents, as every child wants to spend time with them and receive their attention. This activity increases communication and trust between the two and, in the long run, also increases the child’s self-esteem.

– It makes them more reflective. Since in stories we can always find a message or a moral that makes them reflect on how they should act and behave, and also helps them to distinguish between good and bad.

– It favors the intellectual development of the child. By reading a story we make him understand things faster and his brain works faster.

– Through storiesthey learn things about the world around them, such as words in other languages, colors, numbers… in a way that does not seem boring to them.

– It also serves to calm and relax children if they are restless or anxious and helps them to fall asleep.

As you can see, reading a story to a child from an early age brings many benefits for their personal and social development, and it is also an activity that you can do together as a family.
