Throughout their first year of life, babies develop the coordination of their movements and strengthen their muscles. At first they will sit up on their own, then most will crawl, then learn to stand, and then begin to walk. Some start walking before the age of one year, others may be delayed until 18 months, without this being a problem in their development. Today, we would like to offer you some tips to stimulate him to take his first steps:
– We should not force him. We can propose different games that encourage him to move, but never imposing it on him. We can try to get him to reach an object, for example.
– We must stimulate their confidence. Babies have the instinct to stand up, but they can be afraid and become immobile, even start crying. If this happens what we should do is to go to his side and help him to walk.
– Their balance must be enhanced. This can be achieved by trying to get him to stand barefoot. Without shoes his stability is greater.
– There is no need to dramatize if it falls. If we see you fall, we have to go smiling and play it down.
– We can provide mobile support. For example, with a walker or a basket that can be used as a support for walking.
– Always keep an eye on him. We will make sure that the place where he is walking is safe, and we can’t let him out of our sight.
– We have to provide security. A good way is to stand in front of him and hold his hands, trying to make him walk towards us. Afterwards, we can give him only one hand and alternate hands so that little by little he gets rid of his fear of letting go.
