The evolution of children’s language is a fundamental process for their development in which parents must participate. Therefore, this week we give you some tips to facilitate and stimulate your child’s speech learning.
– Broadens your vocabulary
If we expand the child’s environment and experiences by going to the park, the zoo or even the supermarket, we can expand his or her vocabulary. In addition, it is advisable to reinforce the concepts learned by reading a story, singing a song, or doing any other activity that is of interest to the child.
– Talk to him constantly
Children imitate their elders. Therefore, it is important to talk to them consistently. But it is important to remember that repeating a word only once will not be effective. For language to make sense, the child must hear the same word and phrase over and over again and, if possible, in different contexts.
– We must speak like adults
The ideal is to use as many adult words as possible, although diminutives can be used to make the terms sound more childish. However, it is not advisable for the adult to repeat a word that the child has mispronounced and that is funny.
On the other hand, it is also advisable to pronounce the words with enthusiasm, since it allows the child to maintain a greater interest as it does not become a monotonous conversation.
– Name the objects
Whenever you can point to and name the objects and people you are currently seeing, this will help the child retain new vocabulary.
– Listen to him
We must listen to him when he pronounces his first words, even if they are incomprehensible, and try to maintain eye contact with him.
– Ask questions
Asking questions is one of the best ways to get your child to talk. Regardless of the answers they give, this confirms that the child listens, understands and is trying to communicate.
